Rebellious Magazine for Women

I couldn’t have known that my journalism career would be forever changed from one application, but my acceptance into NLGJA’s Student Project as part of their national conference set me on a course that I still ride today. Karen Hawkins, one of the mentors that year, contacted me years later with one ask: revive her brother’s storied blog with my own flair.

the freedom to pitch, write, and post my own columns soon blossomed to a series of graphic novel reviews, and then more editorial responsibilities. while my columns and personal essays are more evergreen, as Managing Editor I focus on Rebellious’ mission of covering issues, politics, and policies that impact women, nonbinary, and gender-nonconforming people in Chicago. it’s a tall task, done largely remotely and with help with local reporters on the ground. that work has the magazine named one of the Top 5 feminist magazines of 2025.
