Often times, students fail to connect with poetry because they do not see their own stories are worthy. Whenever I enter a classroom, I create safe spaces that encourage students to share their truths just as I share mine. Whether it’s an hour session between classes or day long summer retreats, my creative writing frameworks blend traditional literary devices with SEL tenets to build students’ courage and skills.
